Commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari made the remark in a press conference on Thursday, adding “what has been stated so far about the end of ISIL terrorists does not mean the complete, 100-percent eradication of ISIL, but rather the end of ISIL’s dream for achieving statehood.”
He went on to add, “ISIL was in control of a number of cities and aspired to form ‘The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’, but their plan for statehood is now over.”
“Undoubtedly, ISIL will try to infiltrate various countries in the region such as Afghanistan in the form of irregular, underground guerrilla movements and will continue to pose threats against Muslim nations and the Resistance Front,” he added.
To Mehr News question about the subsequent developments in the region in post-ISIL era, he said “ISIL’s self-proclaimed caliphate has crumbled and today, no territory is in their control. But the ideology of ISIL and the dispersed presence of Takfiri terrorists will continue under the guidance of their leaders.”
“Terrorists may plan to carry out attacks or try to occupy another city, therefore we need to be always prepared to confront any such threats,” he stressed.
The IRGC chief further voiced the Guard Corps’ readiness for joining the efforts in Syria reconstructions upon the request of the Syrian government.
